First-time setup (do this once)
- Click ๐ฆ Accounts and add each of your bank accounts. Enter the opening balance โ this is the balance on the day you start using the app.
- Click โ๏ธ Settings โ Categories to review the pre-loaded categories. Add any you need (e.g. "Pension contributions") or delete ones you won't use.
- Use Settings โ Export regularly to save a backup of your data as a JSON file on your computer.
Adding transactions
- Click + Add transaction (on Dashboard or Transactions tab).
- Choose the Type: Income (money coming in), Expense (money going out), or Transfer (moving money between your own accounts).
- Enter the date, description, amount, category, and which account it belongs to.
- Click Save. The transaction is immediately saved to your browser โ no further action needed.
๐ก Data is saved automatically every time you click Save. You do not need to do anything extra to store your entries โ they are saved the moment you confirm each one.
Reports & statements
- P&L Statement โ shows all income and expenses for a chosen period, with a net surplus or deficit at the bottom.
- Monthly Summary โ month-by-month breakdown with a running total so you can see your overall trend.
- Balance Sheet โ shows money in, money out, and current balance for every account.
- Use the Period selector at the top of the Reports tab to switch between this month, last month, this year, or a custom date range.
- Click ๐จ Print to print or save as PDF.
Reconciling your bank account
- Go to the โ
Reconcile tab.
- Select the account and enter the closing date and balance from your bank statement.
- Tick each transaction as Cleared once you see it on your bank statement.
- The status bar shows the difference. When it turns green and reads BALANCED, your records match your bank exactly.
Data & privacy
- All data is stored in your browser's local storage on this device only โ nothing is uploaded or shared.
- Data persists between visits automatically. You do not need to log in or save manually.
- If you clear your browser data or use a different browser or device, your data will not be there. Always use Export (JSON) to back up.
- To move your data to another device: export on this device, then import the file on the other device via Settings.
